Dr. Claudia Schnugg is an Austrian curator and artscience scholar whose work operates at the intersection of art, science, and technology. She develops and researches collaborative initiatives that explore the transformative potential of artscience partnerships, examining their impact on participants, disciplines, institutions, and society. She is developing a theoretical approach on understanding this potential, and reflecting on hands-on knowledge for different settings. She holds a PhD in social and economic sciences with a minor in cultural sciences and media art. Over the past decade, she has realized more than 35 major international projects, including exhibitions, residencies, commissioned artworks, scientific research, and research programs, resulting in over 80 artistic productions.

Claudia is the founding curator of the Universe Pavilion in Venice (2025) and has curated residencies and programs for leading institutions, including ARTcib SciArt Residency at acib Vienna, MASE at ESA/ESTEC, Helmholtz Munich, Resonances IV at the European Commission’s JRC, and various Science Galleries worldwide. She has collaborated with international partners such as Pro Helvetia, the STARTS initiatives of the European Commission, The Dock at Accenture, and multiple research organizations, shaping projects that merge scientific inquiry with artistic experimentation. Recent exhibitions include Sheltering in Space – A Guide (Universe Pavilion, Venice, 2025), NaturArchy (iMAL, Brussels, 2024), The Mutability of Memories and Fates by Anna Dumitriu (Alte Saline Hallein, 2024), The Chronicles from In-Between 495–570nm by Kasia Molga (Marginal, Bucharest, 2024), CORALS by Marco Barotti (BIFOLD, TU Berlin, 2023), Cosmic Elements (Times Art Museum Beijing & Chengdu, and China Resources Tower Arts Center Chengdu 2023–2024), Intersecting Realities (Palatul Stefania, Cultural Capital Timisoara, 2023), and Cosmological Elements (Fosun Foundation, Shanghai, 2022). She is also co-curator of the Traveling Plant and the Venus Conversations 2024-2034 initiatives.

As a scholar, Claudia has held research and teaching positions at UCLA Art|Sci Center, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Copenhagen Business School, and the European Southern Observatory, and served as Visiting Lecturer in the Art x Science PhD program at JKU Linz in 2025. She is the author of Creating ArtScience Collaborations (Springer/Palgrave Macmillan, 2019) and has led research projects such as the DIGI-Sense initiative at JKU supported by the Linz Institute of Technology, integrating artistic and scientific methodologies to investigate the societal relevance and impact of artscience collaborations.

Claudia regularly advises international artscience initiatives, serves on juries for residencies, awards, and scientific boards, and mentors researchers in integrating artistic practice into their work. Her contributions span curatorial innovation, scholarly research, and the global promotion of artscience as a transformative field of inquiry.
